The Ghana Chamber of Mines announced on Friday that Ghana has once again become Africa's top gold producer and is now ranked as the 10th largest producer globally. This achievement was attributed to a significant 32 percent increase in gold production in 2022.

At its annual general meeting, the chamber disclosed that the gold production of the West African nation reached a total of 3.7 million ounces.

According to Joshua Mortoti, President of the chamber, there has been simultaneous growth in the output of both the large-scale and small-scale sectors in 2022. He further mentioned that the large-scale gold sub-sector achieved its highest production level ever witnessed in the country.

Ben Aryee, the special advisor to the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, stated that the government is committed to safeguarding lawful mining operations in the country against criminal activities.

In addition, Aryee emphasized that the government will persist in facilitating the formalization of small-scale mining activities and implementing accompanying programs aimed at providing alternative livelihoods. These efforts are intended to address the challenges of poverty and unemployment in the country.
